Empty Promises Satire
When presidents are campaigning for the presidential election, they are making promises that they cannot fulfill during their presidential term. The promises presidential candidates make are most likely not fulfilled like they promised. No one ever knows if the president will do what he says he is going to do or if what he says will even be approachable. This cartoon is satirizing how presidents never fulfill the promises to they people that he made.
Wii Fit
This video is satirizing how stupid people make themselves seem when they believe a video game is giving them a good workout. If someone wants to get exercise they do not need to be staying inside and thinking that a Wii is going to help them get more exercise. This video shows how Nintendo is trying to get kids to stay inside and play video games rather than be outside and playing. Wii fit will get you now where because you actually do nothing but make yourself look stupid.
Unemployment Satire
People come to the United States for jobs and opportunities that they would never be able to reach in their home country. This cartoon is showing how the Mexicans are going back to Mexico because the "land of opportunity" has no jobs for them but the country they came from has more jobs. If Mexico has more job opportunities we are loosing some of our most vital workers to our country. When the unemployment rate in Mexico is smaller than the unemployment rate in the US we definitely will have a large problem that will need to be fixed.
Illegal Immigration
This cartoon is satire because the pilgrims came to America because they wanted to have their own freedom from England. If the Native Americans had built walls the pilgrims would not have been able to come here. When they came here, the Native Americans had already lived here but the pilgrims did not learn the language of the Native Americans. This is pointing fingers back at us because we are building fences because there is a problem with illegal immigrants entering the country when our ancestors did the exact same thing the new immigrants are doing. The Native Americans did not have a choice to let us on their land or not, and now we have a choice to let new immigrants in because we took the Native American's land they rightfully owned.
What Satire Means to Me
To me, satire is a funny way to make fun of someone or something. Satire should not be taken seriously because it is meant to be a form of comedy. Satire pushes the edge on what is funny and to be not taken seriously. On occasion, satire goes over the line and offends a large group of individuals. Satire is not always an appropriate way to present a situation to the public because some people may think the satire is to judgmental of the person or situation. There is a difference between a joke and personally attacking a person. Most individuals know the difference between being funny and being completely rude. I personally think satire is needed in society because there are things that need to be addressed and can only be addressed in a comical way bringing the viewers attention to the situation lightly.
Government Budget
The United States government has passes bills and decided to pursue baling out large failing companies. Politicians have also spent an endless amount of money on things that are only digging Americans into a larger debt than we were before. The politicians of today do not care how much debt they are leaving for the future tax payers of America. They are leaving a debt that most likely will not be paid off for many generations to come.
